The four ratios most lobbies use
Casino platforms and game aggregators do not agree on one tile size, so most operators end up supporting several. These four cover almost every lobby we have worked on.
| Ratio | Common size (1x) | Retina (2x) | Where it shows up |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3:4 | 300×400 | 600×800 | Standard portrait lobby grid |
| 2:3 | 300×450 | 600×900 | Taller grids and mobile-first lobbies |
| 47:66 | 235×330 | 470×660 | Narrow portrait cut used by some aggregator feeds |
| 16:9 | 640×360 | 1280×720 | Featured rows, hero carousels, live casino tables |
| 1:1 | 400×400 | 800×800 | Category icons, app shortcuts, small widgets |
Pixel sizes vary between platforms. Treat these as safe defaults and confirm the exact numbers your back office expects before you export.
Design one master, export every size
Do not design each ratio by hand. Build one master tile at the largest size you need, for example 1200×1600 for 3:4, with the key art on its own layer, then crop and reflow it into the other ratios from a template. This keeps the frame, badge and title identical across the lobby, and it is what makes weekly new-release batches fast.
Start from the provider's official marketing pack. It normally includes layered key art, the game logo and background plates, which give you far more room than a finished tile.
Safe zones
Lobbies crop, round corners and stack overlays on top of your art. Keep the important parts inside these zones:
- Core zone: keep faces and the logo inside the central 80% of the width and height.
- Title zone: the bottom quarter, with enough contrast behind it to read at 150 px wide.
- Top corners: reserve one for the provider tab and one for badges such as NEW, HOT or JACKPOT.
- Corner radius: assume 8 to 16 px of rounding and keep detail out of the corners.
File formats and weight
| Format | Use it for | Target weight (2x) |
|---|---|---|
| WebP | Default for static tiles | 30 to 60 KB |
| AVIF | Smaller files where your front end supports it | 20 to 45 KB |
| PNG | Only when you need a transparent background | Keep under 150 KB |
| Animated WebP / Lottie | Featured and hero tiles with motion | Under 300 KB |
Naming files so the CDN does the work
Name every export after the game ID your back office already uses, plus the ratio and density. When a new batch lands, files replace themselves on the CDN with no manual mapping.
provider_game-id_ratio@density.webp, for example hacksaw_le-vampire_3x4@2x.webp.
Localising titles
Players scan game logos before they read anything else, so a title in their own language makes the tile readable at a glance. Keep the art identical and rebuild only the lettering for each market. Check line breaks for Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Thai and Hindi, which wrap differently from Latin text, and leave room for German and Finnish compound words. You can see English, Japanese and Korean versions of the same tiles on our home page.
Badges and overlays
Keep NEW, HOT, JACKPOT, EXCLUSIVE and seasonal skins as overlays in your front end rather than baking them into the image. Your team can then schedule them per market and per event without ordering new files.
Pre-flight checklist
- All four ratios exported from one master.
- Logo and faces inside the core safe zone.
- Title readable at 150 px wide.
- Retina 2x files under 60 KB.
- Files named with back-office game IDs.
- Localised titles checked for line breaks.
- Badges kept as overlays.
Common questions
What size should a casino game thumbnail be?
There is no single standard. Most lobbies use a portrait 3:4 tile, commonly delivered at 300×400 px with a 600×800 px retina version. Featured rows usually take 16:9, and some aggregator feeds use 2:3 or 47:66. Design one master at the largest size and export every ratio from it.
Which file format is best for lobby tiles?
WebP is the safe default for static tiles, with AVIF as a smaller option where your front end supports it. Keep PNG for cases that need a transparent background. For motion, use animated WebP or Lottie and keep each file under about 300 KB.
How heavy can a tile be?
Aim for 30 to 60 KB per retina tile. A lobby loads dozens of tiles at once, so a few extra kilobytes per tile quickly turns into seconds on mobile data.
Should the game title be part of the image?
Yes for the hero lettering, because players scan art and logos, not captions. Keep badges such as NEW or HOT as overlays instead, so your team can schedule them without new files.
