Casino UI design for lobbies that help players find games

Casino UI design is less about a pretty mockup and more about how fast a player finds a game in a lobby of thousands. Here are the lobby patterns, tile rules and audit checks we use when designing the visual layer of a casino lobby.

What casino UI design means in the lobby

Search for casino UI design and you mostly get gallery shots: a dark lobby, glowing buttons, a hero carousel that looks great at full size. Useful for mood, less useful when you run a real catalogue. In production, the casino UI is a discovery system. A player lands, scans a few rows, maybe searches, and either opens a game or leaves. Everything on screen should help that scan.

We work on the visual layer of that system: the game tiles, badges, hero banners and the rules that keep them consistent. Your front-end team or platform provider builds the lobby itself. We give them assets that fit the grid, read at small sizes and stay uniform from the first game to the last. If you are planning a full casino platform design, see our online casino design page for the wider site work.

Casino lobby components and the rules that make them work

Most casino lobby design comes down to the same handful of components. Each has one job, and most UI problems come from a component trying to do two.

ComponentJob in the lobbyDesign rule
Hero carouselSell one promotion or launchOne message per slide, readable without the animation. Plan 1920x600/640 desktop and a separate 750x1000 mobile crop, not a squashed desktop file.
Category chipsLet players jump to a game typeShort labels, horizontal scroll on mobile, active state obvious. Keep the count low enough to scan.
Game rowsGroup games by theme, provider or promotionRow title plus a "see all" link. One tile ratio per row so the eye moves in a straight line.
Tile gridShow the full categorySame ratio, same frame, same title position on every tile. Fixed width and height on each image to avoid layout shift.
BadgesFlag status: new, hot, jackpot, exclusiveOverlay, not baked into the art. Same corner and size on every tile, one badge per tile where possible.
SearchFind a known game fastVisible on mobile without opening a menu. Results use the same tiles as the lobby so players recognise the game.
Provider filterBrowse by studioProvider tab on the tile matches the filter name, so the two confirm each other.

Tile ratios: pick one per surface and stick to it

Casino layout design starts with the grid. Platforms ship different lobby grids, so check your platform's spec before anything is drawn. The ratios we deliver most often:

  • 3:4 (300x400, 600x800 at 2x): the common portrait grid tile, good for character art and a clear title.
  • 2:3 (300x450): taller portrait, more room for the hero and a stats line.
  • 47:66 (235x330): a portrait size some lobby templates use; small differences from 3:4 still matter when tiles sit side by side.
  • 16:9 (640x360): landscape rows, featured strips and in-game previews.
  • 1:1 (400x400): square grids and compact mobile layouts.

The rule that matters more than the ratio: never let the browser crop your tile. If a row needs a different ratio, export a different file with the logo and character placed for that crop. Full dimensions and file guidance are on the casino game thumbnail sizes sheet.

Mobile casino UI: thumb reach and small tiles

On a phone, the tile is often a little over a hundred pixels wide. Detail that looks rich on desktop turns into noise. Good mobile casino UI design accounts for that in the art, not only the layout:

  • Game title large and high contrast, inside a safe zone the platform's own overlays (favourite heart, play button, provider label) will not cover.
  • One focal point per tile: a character face or the logo, not both competing.
  • Search, categories and the main navigation inside comfortable thumb reach at the bottom or just under the header, not hidden in a top corner menu.
  • Two columns of portrait tiles usually read better than three on a narrow screen.
  • Retina files at 2x, kept to around 30-60 KB per tile in WebP or AVIF, so a long scroll does not stall on a mobile connection.

How tile templates keep a 5,000-game lobby consistent

Every provider sends key art in a different style, size and colour. Drop that straight into a grid and the lobby looks like a stack of unrelated posters. A tile template fixes the parts that should never change and leaves the game art free to do its job.

When we lock your template, it defines the frame, the provider tab, badge positions, title rules (font, size, case, maximum lines) and safe zones. Then the full catalogue is exported against it in batches, named to your game IDs and delivered at 1x and 2x to a shared folder or your CDN bucket. New releases follow the same template on a weekly retainer, so the game added next month matches the game added three years ago.

Badges sit on top as overlays. That means your CRM or lobby team can mark a game NEW, HOT, JACKPOT, FREE SPINS, BONUS BUY, EXCLUSIVE, TOP 10 or COMING SOON without ordering new art. The casino game thumbnails page covers the 12 tile layouts you can build the template from.

Casino lobby UI audit checklist

Before you redesign anything, run your current lobby through these checks on a real phone and a desktop browser:

  1. Pick five random categories. Do all tiles share the same ratio, frame and title position?
  2. Can you read every game title at mobile tile size without zooming?
  3. Do platform overlays (favourite, play, RTP label) cover the logo or a character face on any tile?
  4. Are badges consistent in corner, size and wording, or does each tile carry its own baked-in label?
  5. Does the hero carousel have a dedicated mobile crop, or is the desktop banner shrunk?
  6. Is search visible and reachable with a thumb on the first screen?
  7. How heavy is a single tile? Anything far above 60 KB at 2x slows long rows.
  8. Do localised lobbies show translated badges and promo copy, or English only?

If several of these fail, the fix is usually a template, not a full redesign. Send us your casino URL and five games through the brief form and we return five tiles in 48 hours as a free sample, so you can see the template in your own lobby before committing.

What casino lobby design work costs

Frame and template design starts from EUR 390. Lobby tiles run EUR 0.80-2.50 per tile at volume, hero tiles from EUR 35 and promo banner sets from EUR 45. Monthly retainers for new releases are Starter EUR 590, Growth EUR 1,290 and Pro EUR 2,490. Payment is crypto only (USDT, USDC, BTC, ETH and others), invoiced in EUR. Full detail is on the rate card.

Casino UI design questions

Do you build the casino front end or lobby code?

No. We design the visual layer: tiles, badges, banners and the template rules. Your front-end team or platform provider implements the lobby and we deliver assets sized and named to fit it.

Which tile ratio should our casino lobby use?

Use whatever your platform's lobby grid expects, most often 3:4, 2:3, 47:66, 16:9 or 1:1. If different rows use different ratios, we export a separate file per ratio rather than letting the browser crop.

How do you keep thousands of tiles consistent?

We lock a reusable template covering frame, provider tab, badges, title rules and safe zones, then export the whole catalogue against it in batches. New releases follow the same template on a monthly retainer.

Can our team add badges without ordering new art?

Yes. Badges such as NEW, HOT, JACKPOT and EXCLUSIVE are delivered as overlays, so the lobby can switch them on and off per game.

Can we test the design before paying?

Yes. Send your casino URL and five games and we return five tiles in 48 hours with no payment, so you can see them in your own lobby.
